King Charles and Princess Diana's marriage

TheCrown's final season is out, we took a look back at now-King Charles and Princess Diana's marriage and its downfall, including all the highs and lows. The world knows that their relationship was a tumultuous one, but they may not remember that it got to the point where Diana wanted to call off the wedding the night before, telling her sisters, "I can't marry him, I can't do this, this is absolutely unbelievable." They talked her out of it by reminding her: "Your face is on the tea towels, so you're too late to chicken out."

While Diana later called her wedding day “the worst day of [her] life,” there were plenty of other factors that led to the breakdown of their marriage. The couple was plagued by Charles’s affair with now-wife Camilla Parker Bowles, arguments about their children, condescension, and deep unhappiness among other things. By the time of Diana’s death in 1997, she and Charles had been divorced for a year.

In Barbra Streisand’s new memoir, ‘My Name Is Barbra,’ she reveals something royally surprising: that Princess Diana once helped save her from a wardrobe malfunction. While attending the London premiere of ‘The Prince of Tides’ in 1992, Streisand attempted to follow royal protocol and wait for Diana to stand first during the screening — but she noticed that the royal bypassed the rules so that she could help the singer fix a zipper that had come undone.

“The zipper on my skirt had come down a bit as I was sitting, and she noticed and quickly started to zip it up for me as I got to my feet,” Streisand wrote. “When I finally sat down, Diana turned to me and asked, ‘Do you know how wonderful you are?’” A total girls’ girl.
